Training & Support

Adoptive and Foster Parents are required to attend an intensive training program called PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education)
PRIDE is a component of the Ontario Practice Model for the assessment, preparation and ongoing support of resource families, both Adoption and Foster.
During the training, you will learn more about:
  • Understanding the needs of children
  • Supporting relationships for children
  • Connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime
  • Participating as a member of a professional team
  • Understanding the impact of positive, day-to-day experiences
  • Provincial resources available for support.
  • Reinforcing a child’s heritage and cultural identity
You will also have the opportunity to meet other adoptive parents, and ask questions of experienced foster and adoptive parents.
During the adoption probation period, an Adoption Coordinator will be assigned for support, until the adoption is finalized.
